Ghana, Africa, 25 January 2017: “We are delighted to be working with the Brien Holden Vision Institute – one of the world’s leading eye care organisations. Their research will identify opportunities to strengthen primary eye care in Ghana and support our ambitious plans to scale our ground-breaking approach to other emerging nations around the world,” said VFAN’s CEO Tom Rosewall.

The research facilitated by the new partnership will assess the potential for developing primary eye care services in the West African nation of Ghana and will involve consultations with the Ministry of Health. Dr Anne Ebri, Sub-Regional Manager for West Africa, will lead the research.

Anne has a long history of leading eye care programs in Ghana, and Nigeria her home nation, and she understands the challenges affecting eye health outcomes and is very experienced in advocating for possible solutions to reduce levels of avoidable blindness and uncorrected vision impairment.

Professor Kovin Naidoo, CEO for the Institute had this to say about Anne when she was nominated as an Eye Health Leader a few years ago, awarded by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
“Anne is an asset to the Brien Holden Vision Institute and to the people of Africa. Her ability to advocate to governments the importance of eye health on the national agenda, her ability to identify appropriate structures, systems and individuals to sustain change and especially her ability to act as a catalyst and facilitator to implement the desired change has earned her immense respect in eye health circles,” he said.
